Sydney with jet lag

Jet lag hit us in a big way today but we had to go and see the Opera House, Circular Quay and Harbour Bridge before giving in to sleep!
Highlight: having a doze in the Botanical Gardens!

We’ve arrived in Australia!

We nearly didn’t get here as Reiner, trying to be a good tourist in litter free Singapore, ripped up his immigration document :-)). But it was only a minor kerfuffle and we managed to board the A380 on time. After a quiet overnight flight to Sydney, we had a bit of a bumpy landing but the view over Sydney Harbour was amazing. Reiner couldn’t wait to get off the plane and is so excited to finally be in Oz after 46 years of dreaming … Now we’re off to find the hotel and beach!
Highlight: being able to lie flat across the seats in the plane 🙂

Sightseeing in Singapore

My God – it’s hot here! Taxis are a must but the first one took us on a tourist detour to a jewellery store and suddenly stopped being friendly when we didn’t buy anything! Then it was up the Sky Park at Marine Bay Sands and its very impressive views. We went on to taste a bit of British colonialism at Raffles Hotel but unfortunately couldn’t eat there as Reiner wasn’t wearing trousers 🙁
Highlight: yummy Chinese lunch at Boat Quay

Arrived in Singapore

Well finally we were packed and left a very cold Germany on Thursday evening. In fact it was snowing as our plane took off. The flight attendants on Singapore Airlines are beautiful and very friendly. But what a long flight!!!! I can see why passengers upgrade to business class … We got off the plane in Singapore to a blast of heat and very humid air, what a difference to Frankfurt! We can see why Singapore Airport has been voted the best airport in the world for the past 25 years – it really is attractive and very, very clean. We took the train to Singapore City Centre and found the hotel with the help of some friendly locals. And WOW!!! To swim outside in a warm pool at 33°C after freezing Frankfurt is just paradise, now topped by Singapore Slings at the edge of the pool …
Highlight: being greeted by a crowd of Singapore children who cheered loudly when we waved at arrivals!

Off to Australia

We are looking forward to leaving on Thursday, 28 March 2013!

We’ll be flying from Frankfurt Airport to Singapore (about 14000 km by car ;-)) with Singapore Airlines and can’t imagine that it is probably about 35°C warmer there!
