Tenerife September 2013

Los Gigantos, beautiful but weird

It’s a totally different coast on the western part of Tenerife. You can see beautiful stony cliffs and beaches, and in contrast awfully arranged blocks especially built for mass tourism.
Anyway, our highlight of today was the huge banana farms – see picture below.

Beautiful Benijo

Today was a total highlight – the drive over the Anaga Mountains north of Santa Cruz with the breathtaking views over the ocean; lunch at El Mirador overlooking the beach with the most delicious fish and Sebastian, our funny waiter from Uruguay (see picture) and finally an afternoon on the secluded beach of Benijo which you can only reach down some steep steps from the restaurant. We were pretty black from the volcanic sand afterwards but happy from our idyllic day 🙂

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Highlight today: The opera of Santa Cruz and the pictures of singers and composers on stones around it.

Mount Teide

Today we ascended the highest point in Spain, Mount Teide, which is the world’s third largest volcano at 3,700 meters. Sorry, we didn’t climb – just drove as far as we could and then took the cable car to near the summit. The view was spectacular and the cheap buffet lunch in the cafe yummy :-))

The Fish Feast

Reiner discovered the roof of our villa this morning where we enjoyed a fantastic view over the ocean and the hills behind. After a lazy morning, hunger drove us to Tajao famous for its fish restaurants. We chose our fish from a cooler and were soon tucking into yummy mussels, tiger prawns, sardines and calamari, each served as a separate course. Another delight are pardon peppers served with sea salt. Good job we left the scales at home!
